Most laminate installations are based on clicking the planks* together. However, there are more installation elements involved that merit employing professionals to do the job. Creative Floors has in-house laminate installation professionals who can produce a floor that meets your aesthetic expectations and the manufacturer’s warranty.
Preparing for your laminate flooring installation
Of course, the common sense guidelines like clearing out the room, keeping children and pets safe, and removing the old flooring apply to laminate installation. Here are some product specific recommendations:
The flooring should be delivered and placed in the installation room(s) at least 48 hours before installation so it can acclimate to where it is being installed.
The subfloor must be flat. Any unevenness must be smoothed out flat. Specially designed underlayments can take care of this while being noise reducing, insulating and damp proof.
If the flooring is being installed over a radiant heating system, we will go over the specific instructions.
Aspects of laminate installation
Since laminate flooring is installed without glue, it can be walked on immediately after installation
For best effect, the flooring should be installed parallel to how the light comes into the room
Installers should randomly select planks from at least three cartons, so the planks are mixed enough to lessen the likelihood of having identical plans next to each other
The laminate needs to have expansion joints at points specified by the manufacturer, including all sides of the floor
Stagger plank end joints by at least 6 inches
Post laminate installation concerns
Laminate is easy to take care of. In order to keep the floor like new, here are some maintenance pointers:
Keep wax, polish, oils, soaps, detergents and varnish away from the laminate; use the cleaner recommended by the manufacturer with a cotton, toweling or microfiber mop
Don’t use spray mops, steam cleaners or power cleaners on the flooring.
A completed laminate installation
Creative Floors only considers an installation complete when you are 100 percent satisfied with your laminate floor – we are always available to consult with over the life of the floor.
*We use planks as an example. Laminate flooring comes in other forms that have the same installation requirements.
