New Year, New Floors: Smart Flooring Projects to Kick Off 2026

Are your floors begging for a fresh New Year’s makeover? January is the perfect month to take action on the “out with the old and in with the new” theme.

After the holidays, the calendar typically opens up, paving the way for a more spacious period until we kick off the spring and summer social seasons. Take advantage of the lull and refresh your home with these flooring ideas for January.

Creative Floors: Orlando’s Top Flooring Experts for Home Upgrades, Casselberry Trusts

If you used the holidays as your time to visit one of the two Creative Floors Orlando-area showrooms and got those creative design juices flowing. Or, if you’ve already scheduled an in-person design consultation, you’re already on your way to a great update for your home.

Our experienced interior design team can help you select the ideal flooring for your home and lifestyle and provide expert guidance to ensure your flooring and upgrades align with today’s trends while honoring timeless interior design tenets.

There are so many benefits to using Creative Floors’ personalized design approach rather than corporate “big-box” stores’ one-size-fits-all approach. Some of them include:

  • We work closely with clients (including the aforementioned in-home consults) to ensure their new floors meet their needs.
  • You can enjoy a flooring refresh plan that honors where you’re at today while encompassing your longer-term plans for the home.
  • You receive honest input and feedback about which products are best for the home’s occupants (including children, pets, or those who use mobility aids).
  • You get referrals to the highest-quality licensed flooring installers in Casselberry and the surrounding area to protect your investment.
  • We always respect your budget and never use high-pressure sales to seal the deal.

Excited about the prospect of finding your household’s best flooring to start the year? So are we!

Ready for the New Floors 2026 Offers? Here Are Three Exciting Flooring Projects for the New Year

Here are three smart flooring project ideas to spruce up your Orlando home:

1. Replace Old Carpet (Especially in High-Traffic Areas)

Is your carpet looking a bit worn out or downtrodden, especially in high traffic areas – like entryways, halls, around beds, or family room furniture, etc.? You’ll be amazed at what a difference it makes when you get rid of the flat, pilled, or stained older carpets and replace them with fresh options.

To ensure you wind up with carpet flooring that meets the demands of the space, the Creative Floors design reps will:

  • Ensure carpet is the best choice for the location: In some cases, we might determine certain high-traffic areas would benefit from hard-surface flooring (see next) while other locations get a carpet refresh for a softer, warmer foundation.
  • Direct you toward carpets that hold up to the demands of kids and pets: That’s right! There’s no need to get rid of carpet altogether for kid- and pet-friendly carpeted floors. The key is knowing which carpets are best for little feet, toys, inevitable spills and accidents, and the wear and tear of sharp claws and paws.
  • Discuss short- and long-term plans for the house:For example, if you plan to rent or sell the home, it may be best to remove carpeting and switch to hard-surface flooring; you can still use gorgeous custom area rugs where carpet would have been your first choice. Or, if you’re planning to age in place, we’ll steer you towards carpet options that work best with mobility aids.

Regardless of what you decide, you’ll love the confidence you gain from carpet consultations that leave you 100% sure of your choice.

2. Add Luxury Vinyl Plank to Higher-Traffic Areas

In addition to being one of the most popular low-maintenance options on the market, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring is also one of the most durable. That durability makes it an ideal solution to high-traffic pathways and spaces, plus those likely to be exposed to water, pet traffic, spills, and accidents.

Some of the other benefits of installing LVP in your home include:

  • Options that replicate natural hardwood and stone flooring materials – minus the expense, maintenance, or risks.
  • Easy installation to expedite interior design projects on a tight timeline.
  • Affordable options that still provide luxury-level aesthetic results.
  • High ROI when it comes to reselling your home or for homeowners who plan to use the home for rental income. LVP allows landlords to bid farewell to constant flooring repairs or continuous replacement between tenants.

Another benefit of LVP is that its clean lines and aesthetic yield a more spacious and uncluttered look.

3. Install Hardwood Flooring That Stands Up to Our Climate

We prioritize flooring that matches our clients’ lifestyles, but that also means selecting materials well-suited to our climate. While the Orlando area has always been a hot spot for northern snowbirds, the hybrid live-work options mean we’ve also seen an influx of relocated northerners with kids and families who loved their old hardwood floors and want to replicate them here.

Since natural hardwood doesn’t fare as well in a humid climate (more prone to warping, splitting, mold/mildew, and staining), we recommend directing your hardwood-loving gaze toward high-end products that replicate natural woods – and even use them in upper layers – but have the durable, moisture-proof coating you need to help them last a lifetime.

The best hardwood floor substitutes are:

  • Engineered hardwood: Engineered hardwood does the best job of replicating natural wood flooring. The planks are thicker, just like “real wood,” but the body is composed of a more durable, water-resistant wood/resin composite. However, engineered hardwood planks are finished with a veneer of real hardwood, which provides a realistic look and feel. Finally, engineered hardwood is protected by an ultra-durable coating. Keep in mind, however, that this coating can still scratch.

We recommend treating engineered wood floors like natural hardwood, using furniture feet pads and rugs in high-traffic areas. Also, by selecting higher-end materials with a thicker finish, you’ll have the option to sand/refinish them down the line (but keep in mind: there is a limit to how many times that can be done).

  • Laminate: Laminate floors are another manufactured product designed to look and feel like natural wood – simulated wood grains and all. Like engineered wood, many products use a thin veneer of real wood to achieve a natural look. Laminate is also finished with a durable coating and offers a softer overall landing than LVP.

That said, it’s essential that Casselberry and Orlando area homeowners limit their selections to waterproof laminate options to ensure the floors remain resistant to water damage over the years.

  • Wood-Look Luxury Vinyl Plank: As mentioned above, LVP is designed to look exactly like many of the best hardwood flooring species, including oak, cherry, walnut, ash, and pine. You can also enjoy the luxurious look of teak and other exotic hardwoods without it weighing on your eco-friendly conscience.

Seeing is definitely believing when it comes to flooring options that replicate natural hardwood. New clients are always amazed at the exactness of their new “hardwood” floors.
